CLASH OF THE HEROES
Officers from Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, and Menlo Park Police Department joined forces to take on Firefighters from Menlo Park and Palo Alto in a charity football game. Police Officers and Firefighters put away their handcuffs and rolled up their hoses to raise money for local youth group "Project WeH.O.P.E."
The game was held Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Palo Alto High School. ALF Senior Fellow Senator Joe Simitian presided over the coin toss, with Mayor Woods performing the introductions.
This first annual "Clash of the Heroes" football game was organized by local youth group "Project WeH.O.P.E." Police Officers and Firefighters agreed to volunteer their time to participate in this event, because they understand the importance of community and youth involvement.
In the end, it was the Police team winning in a thriller, 32-28. Play Flag Football is proud to support this outstanding event which benefitted a worthy cause.
Project WeH.O.P.E was established in 1999 to provide hope and positive alternatives to drugs, violence, illiteracy and other elements that can destroy young lives. The mission of Project WeH.O.P.E. is to restore lives and build leadership skills in order to promote community transformation within Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. All funds raised from "Clash of the Heroes" football game will go towards Project WeH.O.P.E (registered 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation.) More information on Project WeH.O.P.E is available at www.projectwehope.org or by calling ALF Senior Fellow Pastor Paul Bains at 650-207-1998.
